Vozen is a text-to-speech (TTS) bot for Discord. This page explains exactly what data Vozen stores, why, and how you can remove it. In plain language: Vozen keeps the settings it needs to work, and nothing else. It does not keep a log of your messages, and it never asks for your email, phone number, or password.
Who we are
Vozen is an open-source project maintained by an independent developer. The full source code is public on GitHub. Vozen is not affiliated with Discord Inc.
What we store
Everything below is keyed to your Discord user ID and/or server ID (the numeric identifiers Discord already shares with every bot). We never store your real name — only the display name you already show in the server, and only at the moment it is spoken.
- Your preferences — your chosen voice and engine, speaking speed, an optional voice effect, your language-detection setting, personal abbreviations, and a phonetic nickname (how you want your name pronounced out loud).
- Server settings — set by server admins: the TTS channel, auto-read on/off, default voice, character/rate limits, language, greeting options, a word blocklist, and pronunciation overrides.
- Opt-out list — if you ask Vozen not to read your messages, we store that choice.
- Fun stats — minigame scores (points and wins) and "top speaker" counts (how many of your messages were read aloud, plus daily streaks). These power the
/topspeakersand/gameleaderboards. - Birthday — only the month and day you optionally set, never the year. Used so Vozen can wish you a happy birthday in the voice channel.
- Premium status — whether a server or user has Premium, when it expires, and the source (e.g. a Ko-fi purchase). For server Premium passes we also store which servers you activated a licence on.
Voice clone (opt-in, sensitive). If — and only if — someone runs
/voice clone record, Vozen stores a short audio recording of a
voice plus the timestamp of consent, so it can later speak in that voice. You can
record your own voice, or another person's voice only after they grant
explicit on-screen consent (an Allow/Deny button that only that person can
press). Recording happens only during the explicit recording window and captures
only the chosen person — never the rest of the channel. The sample belongs to the
person who ran the command (they are the one who will speak with it), and they can
delete it at any time with /voice clone delete, which removes the
recording immediately. Only clone a voice you have the right to use.
What we do NOT store
- We do not keep a history or log of your chat messages. Text is turned into speech on the fly and then discarded.
- To speed up repeated phrases, recently synthesized audio may be cached briefly on the server. This cache is keyed by a hash of the text, is not tied to your identity, and rotates out over time.
- Outside of a voice-clone recording you personally start, the bot stays deafened and does not listen to or store voice-channel audio.
Third parties
When you use a Google voice, the text to be spoken is sent to Google's text-to-speech service to generate the audio (subject to Google's Privacy Policy). Local (Piper) voices and voice clones are generated on our own server, and that text never leaves it. Only the text to be spoken is ever sent out — never your user ID or message history. Discord processes all bot activity under Discord's Privacy Policy. We do not sell your data, share it with data brokers or ad networks, or use message content to train AI models.
Your controls & deletion
- Delete your voice clone:
/voice clone delete. - Stop being read aloud: opt out with the relevant command in your server.
- Server admins can reset server settings and per-user data for their server.
- For a full deletion of any data tied to your ID, ask on our support server.
Children
Vozen is not directed at children. You must be at least 13 years old (or the higher minimum age required by the laws of your country) to use Discord and, by extension, Vozen. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age.
Changes
We may update this policy as Vozen evolves. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version.
